Region of operation: Bahia

Served audience: early childhood children

We support the opening of a new morning class for 12 children and the expansion of full-time education for 18 children in early childhood education at Escola Comunitária Maramar, in Maraú (BA).

The city of Maraú has around 22,000 inhabitants, of which 60% live below the poverty line (IBGE, 2021). The Human Development Index (HDI) is 0.593, well below the national average (0.724). The Education HDI is only 0.404, and the illiteracy rate reaches 27%.

In this context, Escola Comunitária Maramar seeks to reduce inequalities, promote educational inclusion, and expand opportunities for local children. It is the only institution in the region that accepts children from the age of one, allowing mothers in vulnerable situations to return to the job market and contributing to the social and economic development of families.

Main objectives:

● Expand services for young children.
● Improve infrastructure with bathrooms, a kitchen, and appropriate furniture.
● Provide lunch and afternoon snacks, in addition to existing meals.
● Acquire educational toys and school materials.
● Hire a teacher and a classroom assistant.
